PRESS RELEASE: KAGAY-AN FESTIVAL 5th FLOAT PARADE

There will be major changes in parade route for the Float Parade this year in consideration of the ongoing construction of Marcos Highway fly-over. The 5th Float Parade is set on August 27 Saturday and supervised by Pueblo de oro Development Corporation for Promote CDO.

Spectators are advised that the parade will still kick off from Rodelsa Circle by 7am passing thru Velez St. But instead to going straight towards Velez-Licoan-Recto junction, the parade will turn from Velez Street to Luna St then go straight to Osmena St. From Osmena, the participants will turn right towards Coca-Cola plant in Claro Recto and proceed to Limketkai Drive main entry point in Lapasan where the end point of the Parade will be held.

There are 69 confirmed participants which will include 15 competing floats, 2 sponsor floats, 22 drum and bugle corps and some civic organization groups, including from the PNP, Philippine Army, Coast Guard among others.

5th Float Parade participants are requested to be at the assembly area as early as 5:30am. The City PNP has assured the organizers that security will be tightened for the participants and spectators.

There will be showbiz personalities who will join the parade, including the winners of Ms. Kagay-an 2011, city officials and a lot more.

COHARA or known as the Cagayan de Oro Hotel and restaurant association has been in the field of competitions for over 15 years. It was launched last last week, the KUMBIRA 2011. It says that this is the longest culinary show in the country.

The exhibits are all about several competitions of cooking foods, displaying beverages, cooking competitions, demonstrations of different table arrangements, and bartending competitions.

The festival is addressed how important is health in our world. It gives opportunity to different hotels, restaurants and schools to show what they’ve got and what they had. This will certainly helpful for the region to increase the standard of the culinary skills.

All the students are free to join here together with their unique and creative foods, not just the taste but also the look of those foods.

This year, because it is their 15th, there are about 15 competitions for professionals and students.

They also include the Mindanao Chef Wars which will mix by professional and student teams to represent Mindanao in the chef wars national competition for the year 2011.

Last year it has been recorded that during the events there are 18,000 visitors within just 3 days. This year the event expects to increase that number. There are 17 professional and 40 schools last year attended, and it is expected to grow this year 2011.

This coming August 17-19, 2011 will be held at Limketkai Mall. People from different areas here in Mindanao will surely here to witness the blasting festival of KUMBIRA.

GENERAL ADMISSION: P 60.00 per day P 150.00 season pass (for 3 days)

In 1966 COHARA was established and immediately put up KUMBIRA for the employees to show their skills through trainings and workshops together with professional lecturers in the hotel and restaurant industry. Members here are expert instructors which are from Canadian Executive Service Organization. They are teaching hotel and restaurant staff through conducting trainings specifically hotel and restaurant operations.

The organization is expanding by attending international conferences today.
