Coca-Cola’s HALiKa! Caravan Raises P242, 367.35 For Cagayan de Oro City

Sunday, December 13, 2009 |

Greetings!

In behalf of The Coca Cola Company, we would like to thank you for supporting the Coca Cola Company’s Halika! Charity Workout here in Cagayan de Oro held this morning(December 5) at Lim Ket Kai Center Parking Lot D.

Allow me to share with you our post event press release for your perusal.

"On one of five nationwide visits that will take it through key cities in the country, the Coca-Cola HALika! Caravan successfully raised Php 242,367.35 during its fourth stop in Cagayan de Oro last December 4, 2009.

More than 1,500 participants attended the event, which was held at the Limketkai Center Parking Lot D Lapasan, Cagayan De Oro City. Participants sweated it out for a good cause, burning a total of 242,367.35 calories. For every calorie lost, one peso was donated to the Feeding Program for the Macabalan Elementary School Kids.

The Feeding Program is spearheaded by the University of the Philippines Alumni Association-Cagayan de Oro (UPAA-CDO) Chapter, this program aims to assist the 343 below normal school children of the Macabalan Elementary School, which is classified as Depressed Disadvantaged and Underserved. By providing hot meals, the program aims to reduce the number of malnourished children in school and promote good and proper nutrition among these students. This is also UPAA-CDO’s way of actively involving parents, teachers, and school administrators in addressing the concerns on hunger and malnutrition.
The Coca-Cola HALika! Caravan will then head on to Rajah Sulayman Park in Manila on December 19, 6AM, for the culminating charity workout.

This year marks the biggest HALika! campaign to date with the introduction of the Caravan, which will bring the message of healthy and active living to Filipinos.

The fun and practical HALika! workouts are based on everyday activities such as household chores, walking to and from work and even dancing. These workouts help improve strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular health.

HALika! Mag-Healthy and Active Living Na! is supported by media partners, Manila Bulletin, the Philipine star and the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

HALiKa! Mag-Healthy and Active Living Na! is part of the Healthy and Active Lifestyle advocacy of Coca-Cola which encourages everyone to make balanced nutrition, regular physical activity and proper hydration part of everyday life."

MisOr Meteors wrest ASEAN Basketball Championship

Monday, November 9, 2009 |

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - Philippines’ Misamis Oriental Meteors wrested the championship title at the expense of the host team Guangxi China, 83-75, in the 2nd China-Asean Basketball Tournament ultimate match-up that was held in Pingguo County, Guangxi, China last October 24, 2009.

Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar S. Moreno’s Meteors, the Liga Pilipinas’ second conference champion, earned its way to the top spot in Group A averaging 92.5 points per game after four outings.

The Meteors had a blowout victory against Malaysia, 105-65 in the opening match last October 19 and subsequently charred three other national teams, that of Vietnam, 88-56, Hongkong, 82-68 and arranged for a semi-final encounter against Singapore.

Under the mentorship of veteran head coach Jun Noel, Meteors’ top-gunner Patrick Cabahug conspired with power forward Erian Daja and pointguard Khael Misa for a 33-point drubbing of Singapore (2-1), 95-62.

In Group B, China’s Guanxi team also swept all its assignments; dumped Singapore in the opener, 84-51, crushed Myanmar, 81-45, and toyed with Laos, 104-73. Thus, the host team had to face China’s other team, Hongkong (2-1) in a semi-final game, and subsequently outscored the former British colony, 80-73.

After losing to the Philippines’ MisOr Meteors, Guangxi settled for the second place while Hongkong salvaged the third spot. Singapore was relegated to fourth, followed by Malaysia, Vietnam, Myanmar and Laos.

“Am so happy with the performance of our team! Congratulations to coach Jun Noel and to all team members,” said Governor Moreno during his weekly public affairs television program, Ang Lalawigan Karon (The Province Now).

The 2nd China-Asean Basketball Tournament was organized by the Basketball Administrative Center of the General Sports Administration of China, co-organized by the Administration of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the People’s Government of Balse City, and the support of the People’s Government of Pingguo County, Guangxi Ball Games Development Center, and Guangxi Basketball Association. Danilo Empedrad are expected to give their messages during the opening program, anchored on the this year’s theme, “Kilos Pamayanan: Sa Droga Patuloy na Lumban”.

PPOC executive officer Teodoro A. Sabuga-a, head of the provincial social welfare and development office, said that before the opening program, a motorcade on Cagayan de Oro City’s main streets will be held.

Sabuga-a said that the motorcade will be participated in members of the PPOC and Municipal Peace and Order Councils, municipal officials, police and military officers, personnel from the Department of Education (DedEd) and Commission on Higher Education (CHEd), and representatives of non-governmental organizations and other regional line agencies.

Meanwhile, PDEA 10 regional director Abanto announced that their office will be conducting symposia and film showing in various secondary schools and colleges in Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental as well as in selected barangays, all geared toward creating greater awareness of the menace of drug and substance abuse.

He said they have already invited rehabilitated drug dependents to share their first-hand experiences during these symposia.

Moreover, to sustain the drug prevention campaign, the PPOC has also launched a radio plug and television advertisement competition which is open to all interested individuals, including professional broadcasters and mass media practitioners.

Provincial Press Office head Maricel CasiƱo Rivera, who also heads the PPOC publicity committee, emphasized that the content of the radio plug and TV ad must be engaging, relevant and appropriate to desired audience.

Rivera said the entries, which must be submitted to the Misamis Oriental PPO not later than 5 p.m. of November 11, 2009, will be judged according to content (25%), visual design (30%), concept (25%), and quality of craft (20%). Cash prizes await the top three winners of both contest categories; P10,000 for first place, P7,000 for second place, and P5,000 for third place. Winning entries will become properties of the PPOC and would eventually be aired on all radio and television stations, she added.

Other highlights of the drug abuse prevention and control week celebration include brass-band exhibition interspersed by performances of Cagayan de Oro Dance Sports Council members at 2 p.m. on November 12 and the anti-drug concert of the members of the Samahan ng mga Mag-aawit and Musikero ng Kagay-an (Sammaka) at 5 p.m. on November 20, and will be followed by a culmination program. Loretos Bar and Grill

Saturday, October 31, 2009 |

One of the awesome Bar and Grill here in Cagayan de Oro was Loretos. Last October 23, 09, CDO bloggers together with Davao Bloggers and Manila Bloggers had a dinner party. We choose the place because of the available space for us with a complete pool table and Videoke (I love to sing, just kidding.) But one of the best was there food (that was a yummy one). We had fish (sweet and sour), fried chicken and Buco Salad (a yummy desert).

I recommend this place which is located at Tomas Saco St.,Nazareth, Cagayan de Oro City.
